Screening on The LifeStyle Channel, everyday amateur Australian cooks battle it out at the dinner party showdowns, mixing reality with a massive dose of comedy.

Rival hosts go to great lengths to win and the knives (and forks) are well and truly out.

The icing on the cake is broadcaster James Valentine’s dry and pithy narration of events.

James Valentine is a broadcaster, writer, MC and musician. Each weekday from 1pm – 3pm, he presents Afternoons on ABC Radio 702 in Sydney. A newspaper columnist, he also plays saxophone and his quartet has performed weekly at the Golden Sheaf in Double Bay in Sydney for the past several years and has released three CDs.

James is the writer/narrator of Come Dine With Me for the Lifestyle Channel. He was both producer and presenter of Exhumed - a television program on amateur music – for the ABC and is currently the presenter of an arts/showbusiness program for ABC News 24, called The Mix.

James has been part of Australian media and entertainment his entire working life. He was a musician in the 1980s and a member of bands such as Models, Absent Friends and the Wendy Matthews Band. He toured and recorded with Jo Camilleri, Steve Cummings, Kate Ceberano and a host of others.

On television, he’s been the host of the children’s program The Afternoon Show on the ABC, presented Showtime Movie News for more than 10 years, been a regular on Sunrise, The Midday Show and Good Morning Australia, a judge on It Takes Two and briefly a Playschool presenter (he struggled to make a spider out of pipe cleaners).

He’s the author of six books. The JumpMan series is a science fiction trilogy for young adult readers, The True History of Stuff is for children and The Form Guide and Spotfull are two books of adult humour based on his radio show.

He lives in Sydney, and is married to Joanne, who is a clinical psychologist. They have two children.
